Below is a matrix for professional development to guide the needs and direction of educational technology integration at C.I.
Categories used are:
Entry - The teacher uses technology tools at a minimum -- basic use of core software.
Adoption - The teacher is able to use software daily and can also direct students in the conventional use of tool-based software.
Adaptation - The teacher encourages adaptation of tool-based software by allowing students to select a tool and modify its use to accomplish the task at hand.
Infusion - The teacher creates a learning environment that infuses the power of technology tools throughout the day across subject areas.
Transformation - The teacher creates a rich learning environment in which students regularly engage in activities that would have been impossible to achieve without technology.
Standards* used are:
Starter(S) = Base level introduction to software, hardware, concept, technique, or task
User(U) = Regular (daily/very regular) use of software, hardware, concept, technique, or task with some assistance
Independent User(IU) = Regular (daily/very regular) use of software, hardware, concept, technique, or task with very little or no assistance; also helps support other users.
Advanced Independent User(AIU) = Regular (daily/very regular) use of software, hardware, concept, technique, or task with very little or no assistance; discovers new software/ways of using software in curriculum and share these resources; also helps support other users.
*For quantitative scoring, the following numbers are assigned to the standards above: S=1, U=2, IU=3, and AIU=4. The highest score is 4, lowest is 1.
Example of use: at the end of a school year, we can assess that a teacher's score in this matrix is 145 out of 200. We can then assign interpretations of these scores and recommend specific professional development for constant improvement.
